Apache Drill Interface For R

Bob Rudis announces a new package on CRAN:

I’m extremely pleased to announce that the sergeant package is now on CRAN or will be hitting your local CRAN mirror soon.

sergeant provides JDBC, DBI and dplyr/dbplyr interfaces to Apache Drill. I’ve also wrapped a few goodies into the dplyr custom functions that work with Drill and if you have Drill UDFs that don’t work “out of the box” with sergeant‘s dplyr interface, file an issue and I’ll make a special one for it in the package.

Seems quite useful if you’re working with MapR.  H/T R-bloggers

Bayesian Modeling Of Hardware Failure Rates

Sean Owen shows how you can use Bayesian statistical approaches with Spark Streaming, using the example of hard drive failure rates: This data doesn’t arrive all at once, in reality. It arrives in a stream, and so it’s natural to run these kind of queries continuously. This is simple with Apache Spark’s Structured Streaming, and proceeds […]

Improving Plots With ggformula

Sebastian Sauer shows how you can use the ggformula package combined with ggplot2 to enhance your R visuals: Since some time, there’s a wrapper for ggplot2 available, bundled in the package ggformula. One nice thing is that in that it plays nicely with the popular R package mosaic. mosaic provides some useful functions for modeling along with a tamed and consistent […]
